Watching a movie that takes place in an amusement park has in itself the idea of a double entertainment, a show within a show that sets the mind of the public towards carefreeness and pure evasion. Yet, there is a surprising variety in this list, both in the genres (from the comedy to the horror of The Funhouse) and in the types of the parks: there are classic amusement parks (the most famous, on Coney Island, makes an appearance in a gem of 1953: Little fugitive), together with the world’s most famous prehistoric island (obviously from Jurassic Park). There is even a small ‘Jane Austen’ theme park (Austenland). If you love pools and water slides,The Way Way Back is a delicious, teenage story, vaguely nostalgic; a similar atmosphere can be also found in Adventureland. It is impossible not to mention Westworld, a suggestive breakdown of time set in a future amusement park that recreates the Old West. The recent tv series is based on this film.
